The next free pattern...the Water Lily Dishcloth!

This pattern has only been tested by me, so if you find any errors please let me know. I did my first sample in some off-white acryclic I had handy...

But you'll see where the pattern name came from after I made a cotton version in some bright Bernat Handicrafter colors, called Creamsicle and Hot Green.

Click HERE to download a pdf version of the pattern.

Feel free to sell any dishcloths you make, just don't sell the pattern. Please and thank you. :)

Water Lily Dishcloth

a free pattern by Charlotte Richardson 2013

Supplies:

Size I/5.5 mm hook

Worsted weight cotton yarn in your choice of colors – I used Bernat Handicrafter in Creamsicle (A) and Hot Green (B). One 50g/1.75 ball of each color should make 2 cloths.

Gauge: not important. I tend to work tightly. My sample measured just over 7” wide.

Stitches used: sl st, sc, hdc, dc. Shell=5 dc in same sp.

Let’s begin!

With color A:

Rnd 1: starting with a magic circle, 6 sc. Sl st to 1st st.

Rnd 2: ch 1; 2 sc in each st around. Join with sl st in 1st sc.

Rnd 3: *ch 4; sk next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * 4 more times. Ch 2, dc in 1st ch of starting ch 4.

Rnd 4: ch 1, sc in same loop. *Work shell in next sc; sc in center of next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st sc.

Fasten off A. Join B with sl st in any sc between shells.

Rnd 5: ch 5, sc in 3rd dc of next shell. *Ch 3, dc in next sc; ch 3, sc in 3rd dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in 2nd ch of beginning ch 5.

Rnd 6: ch 1, sc in same st. 3 sc in next loop. *Sc in sc; 3 sc in next loop. Sc in dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st sc.

Rnd 7: ch 1, sc in same st. Sc in each st around. Join with sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 8: ch 2, hdc in next st. *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in top of beginning ch 2.

Rnd 9: ch 1, sc in same sp. *Sk next 2 st, shell in next st. Sk next 2 stitches, sc in next. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st sc. Finish off. You’re done!

In contrast, production involves a routine or pre-planned process. A design may also be a mere plan that does not include a production or engineering processes although a working knowledge of such processes is usually expected of designers.

Beautiful! I'm almost done with mine, but should there be a single crochet between each shell in the last round?

Yes indeed! I will make that correction. Thanks for catching it!

I've found it a bit too small for a functional dishcloth.
