I'm going to buy some vinegar.
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 9:48PM I'm not making pickles or doing any canning. I want to try using it for some cleaning. I've been inspired by watching more How Clean is Your House and by doing some surfing for home made cleaning supplies. It's amazing the sorts of things you can do with simple ingredients like vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. I'm sure it will be good for my asthma to clean without strong smelling chemicals, will be better for our pets, and will probably save us a few dollars in the process. Here are a few tips I've come across that I'd like to try out:
-
For shiny, streak-free floors, use a mixture of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and one gallon of water to mop tile or linoleum. For tough stains, apply undiluted vinegar directly on the stain.
- A quarter cup of vinegar in a quart of water makes a good window cleaner. When you use vinegar in your water to wash windows, dry with newspapers. Your windows will sparkle! Keep a solution of 50/50 white vinegar and water in a spray bottle to use for cleaning windows.
- Put undiluted vinegar in a spray bottle and use in the bathroom to remove hard water stains and soap scum.
- Make an air freshener by dissolving 1/8 cup of baking soda in 2 cups of hot water, then add 1/2 cup lemon juice. Put into a spray bottle and spritz away.
- Clean chrome, stainless steel or ceramic fixtures with a sponge dampened with white vinegar.
That will all have to wait for tomorrow...it's now after 10pm and I'm not about to start any cleaning!
